This website is a result of the work of ED MURFIN, (Charles Edward Murfin, Jr., in branch 001) , who was born in the state of Maryland in 1935, but has lived in the state of Florida since he turned 16, moving to Orlando with his parents, Charlie and Leona Murfin in 1952, He has lived in many areas of that state, but was longest in northeast Florida, with a Jacksonville address for over 30 years. In 2016, he and his wife, Beverly, moved 350 miles due west to the Florida panhandle, to live near Pensacola, near their older son, granddaughter and two young great granddaughters.
Ed had first begun to study his own family roots in Pennsylvania, while he and his older brother Jim (1929-1987) were still young. But when he found so many Murfin people in his own country he saw that he had to go into world records to separate them. His brother was deceased by the time Ed got really serious about this matter and he was in his fifties. He began to write letters to every Murfin he could get an address for and he collected all the information that came in on families that were directly traceable through his own roots and numbered the other collections which did not fit his own. He soon had as many as 75 separate families, but one by one a common link would be found and one of his numbered families would be combined with another family in his record. So by the time he was 80 and determined that he needed to pass the Murfin Research Mantle on to a younger Murfin, he’d reduced the number of separate family lines of Murfin by whatever spelling to the present number of 53. He did not change the numbering, just combining the smaller lines into the larger lines as the information required. So what you see today is the remnant of that numbering system – with the smaller, absorbed, lines erased. He also started a FaceBook page called MURFIN PEOPLE where we could all share Murfin stuff with each other. That continues to this day.
Ed’s appeal for another Murfin to take over the work of nearing the goal of finding the common ground for all Murfin People (besides Adam and Eve) was answered when Chris Murfin in London said, “I’ll do it.” in 2016. These two had been corresponding for a long time and had gotten to know each other quite well. When they first met, Chris was working with FamilyLife Ministries, a division of Campus Crusade for Christ, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Ed had him in tree #12. Chris was born in Staffordshire, England, so it wasn’t long before Ed found common roots in Chris’s background and that of Graham Murfin in Northumberland and combined Graham’s #16 with Chris’s #12 (and the number 16 disappeared). By 2012, Chris had moved to London, England. So it is a natural that he be the one to continue the work. So here it is, as Chris has put a wonderful modern touch to the Murfin family tree website. Ed hopes that you will get behind Chris and help him continue to build the world family tree known as Murfin / Merfen / Mirfin / Murphin / Murphine /………..
